Robots are used in all sorts of places, including space. They have been used for dangerous tasks where oxygen, for instance, is not present, since 1957. They don't need life support systems, and can be left behind after a mission. A group of robots have explored Mars from the surface or from orbit.
The first robots had to be operated remotely but today's have intelligence built in. Robonaut can perform an astronaut's tasks within a space mission. It has the same ability as an astronaut wearing a space suit to explore planetary surfaces, and can augment an astronaut's tasks too. Without robots, the marvellous discoveries and growing understanding of space would not have been possible.

Robots began going to space since 1957.. Robots are sent to space to study the environment and materials they collect from other planets like Mars By studying the elements that make up materials, scientist can know what kinds of things existed on the planets. It also gives scientists the opportunity to learn more about our own planet. Unlike human astronauts they don’t require air or are affected by extreme temperatures.
Robots are able to send information back to earth. NASA is working on human form robots to help on missions. They are also trying to have robots that can fix other robots through satellites to keep costs down.
