There are at least ten, probably more. The worst are places like South Sudan, several African countries, Iran, Pakistan and Korea. In fact, it was reported recently that there are only 11 countries in the world that are not in some kind of conflict.

Countries that appear to be above the mess of warlike behaviours, such as Switzerland, play their part in the wars elsewhere by exporting arms, so to call them 'peaceful' is rather hypocritical.

There are at least sixteen countries engaged in wars now in the year 2018. While not all these countries are technically not engaged in civil war, they are all certainly involved in war.

These countries are, in order by the number of conflict related fatalities: Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan, Mexico, Somalia, Nigeria, Sudan, South Sudan, Libya, Pakistan, Egypt, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Yemen, Ethiopia and Ukraine. Mexico is an example of a country that is not involved in a civil war but their internal drug war has resulted in over 12,000 deaths and an additional 27,000 people who have been characterized as missing.
