There are at least sixteen countries engaged in wars now in the year 2018. While not all these countries are technically not engaged in civil war, they are all certainly involved in war.
These countries are, in order by the number of conflict related fatalities: Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan, Mexico, Somalia, Nigeria, Sudan, South Sudan, Libya, Pakistan, Egypt, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Yemen, Ethiopia and Ukraine. Mexico is an example of a country that is not involved in a civil war but their internal drug war has resulted in over 12,000 deaths and an additional 27,000 people who have been characterized as missing.
