A goitre is one of the most common thyroid disorders. In this disease, the thyroid gland causes our neck to swell and become enlarged. However, they are harmless.
Goitre mainly occurs when we eat foods such as soybeans, rutabaga, cabbage, and peanuts. The chances of suffering from goitrebecome higher as there are goitre-promoting foods. Our health-diet plays the most important role in causing or preventing a goitre. Below, I have enlisted some of the ways (in no particular order) through which you can prevent goitre:
Smoking can lessen iodine absorption in your body. So, it’s better to quit smoking as soon as possible.
Under and over-consumption of iodine in your diet can also lead to goitre. Hence, it’s your responsibility to take an appropriate amount of iodine in your diet.
The best way to prevent a goiter is to eat a balanced diet. If your diet includes huge amounts of goiter-promoting foods such as soybeans, peanuts, spinach, peaches, or cabbage you may be more prone to goiters. Goiters can also form if you do not get enough iodide in your diet. Many table salts in the United States now are enhanced with iodide, making goiters in the United States very rare.
