Right now there are about 2,000 troops in Syria, working as advisors to the Syrian Defense Force, or providing other support to local militias battling the Islamic State. The mission to eradicate the Islamic State, also known as Isis in Syria is coming to an end for the United States. Several divisions of the US military are active in the county, including US special forces. The military is acting with other parts of the US government in Syria.
The goal is to work toward peace and ensure that ISIS never re-emerges. The United States is focused on creating safe zones for civilians as other efforts to stabilize the country. President Donald Trump does not want to discuss numbers of troops or plans for further military activities because he wants there to be an element of surprise when it comes to battle tactics.
