Saudi Arabia has many restrictions on women. Infact, it can be said that women are not free in this country. Women are not allowed to go out in public without a male guardian. They cannot get married, get a passport or travel abroad without a permission from a male guardian. They wear hijab everytime.
Sophia, a robot was granted citizenship, the robot does not need a male guardian to move around, she doesn't wear hijab. Saudi Arabia doesn't grant a non muslims to get citizen but a robot has it.
I think, Saudi Arabia granted these privileges to the robot because the robot will be use to better the lives of the people. If permission is not granted to the robot it will not be able to carry out certain tasks.
There are many restrictions for Saudi Arabian women. They are still subject to guardianship laws that require them to procure a male guardian's permission before they get married, obtain a passport, or travel abroad. Such rules do not oppress the robots. The robots can interact with men.
They have many other privileges that the women are not granted. Robots want to use their artificial intelligence to make the world a better place. They want to help humans live a better life. They want to design smarter homes and build more efficient cities for the future.
