Which countries do not celebrate International Women's Day?

About 6 countries do not celebrate International Women's Day. There are: India, Indonesia, Somalia, Syria, Saudi Arabia and Iraq.

Girls in Somalia still go through genital mutilation, most of them go through this process before the age of 10. Iraq is known for how women are treated badly, in fact many believe it's right for a man to beat his wife. Many women are used as slaves and are stoned to death. Saudi Arabia is now for separating women from men, women are not allowed to go out alone or to follow certain career path. In Syria women are used as sex slaves. Indonesia and India also treat women as inferior.

Iraq, Somalia, Saudi Arabia, Syria, and Indonesia do not celebrate women's day. International Women's Day is on March 8th. It is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. The day marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity. America had organized a women's day on February 28, 1909, in New York.

The 1910 international socialist women's conference suggested a women's day be held annually. After women gained suffrage in Soviet Russia in 1917, March 8th became a holiday there. In some countries, it is a day of protest. In other countries, it is a day that celebrates womanhood.
