The answer depends on where you’re from. Each country’s citizen wants their own country to take the trophy home, but you won’t really know until the final minute of the world cup is over. The world cup does favor the already well-established teams which have had a history of excellent performances. Teams like Germany, Argentina, Brazil, Spain, Uruguay, France, and Portugal have extremely strong squads going into the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
Favoritism is mostly towards Germany(the previous champions), Spain (the beloved champions of 2010), Brazil, Argentina and Portugal(Neymar, Messi and Cristiano’s strongholds respectively). I’m a Germany supporter at heart but I am open enough to believe that this world cup is going to be a surprising one. The absence of Italy is already a huge twist no one saw coming(I miss Buffon). Costa Rica, the dark horse of 2014 is back and it might not be the only underdog with this secret.
The fresh threat to this year is Salah’s Egypt. The English might surprise but their last two world cups have been disappointing. This world cup is a culmination conflict waiting to happen and the possibilities are endless. I certainly wish Germany win again because I support them but I would love if someone dethrones them as World Cup Champions.
