If you mean humanity as an aspect of a person's character, then there is nothing wrong and everything right. To be humane suggests that a person will treat others fairly, with due sympathy and understanding. If you mean human beings, as opposed to other species, then clearly we possess unattractive, hostile and fearsome potentialities as well as good ones and those negative behaviours can cause some of the ills in the world.
Greed, for instance, can determine whether actions like use of harmful chemicals are used rather than harmless operations if there is good money to be made from the choice. Ambition can determine what a politician says to gain popularity irrespective of his true beliefs or knowledge of possibly harmful outcomes from his words.
I happen to agree with the recently deceased Stephen Hawking who blamed the problems on humanity with greed and stupidity because the world population continues to grow and we can’t seem to solve climate change.
Unfortunately, the current United States President, Donald J. Trump, exhibits both of these unflattering character flaws and humanity will not improve while he is President. I would add a lack of compassion and empathy, especially for refugees, homeless people, and victims of violence in so many countries. Again, a characteristic lacking in Trump. If he truly felt compassion for people, he would not have say the terrible things he says about immigrants and others.
