The Wild West is known for gunslinging and vast amounts of criminals doing crazy things. It was believed that living in the Wild West was risky. Other atrocities were kidnappings, feuds and murdering people in mass murders. One of those was the Bender family who ran a small inn in their house. They were known for killing their tenants and keeping their bodies under their house. Another atrocity includes the Bascom Incident.
This happened when Bascom who was a moron lieutenant and was assigned to find and return a kidnapped boy. The boy was kidnapped by Native Americans. Bascom thought it was another tribe and held the tribe’s chief’s family hostage. The chief got his hostages and they were killed. A war eventually happened as a result of this mishap.
By far the greatest atrocities committed by the United States when conquering the Wild West was the treatment of Native Americans. The horror inflicted on these peaceful people and the destruction of their lives, their way of life, religion, culture, legends, and spirit should never be forgotten or forgiven. What was done to the Native Americans is simply sickening; and, I think in many ways worse than slavery.
Slavery was outlawed for the most part in most of the world. But to this day (in 2018) hundreds of thousands of Native Americans live in appalling conditions on reservations in isolated areas, some without running water and electricity.
