Why are Japan's censorship laws so relaxed?

Some people feel that the censorship laws in Japan are quite weird. The country is more relaxed in censorship as compared to other countries. Japan is known to be quite open about different things. This somewhat changed back in the year 2000 when they started to become influenced by Western countries.

There are still some things that they do not do much about like Hentai wherein the sexual organs are not depicted quite properly. There are some people who are surprised that wounds are not usually shown but the end results of the wounds will still be seen by the watchers. Japan probably thinks that other censorship laws are strange as well.

Actually, this is a common misconception. Japan's censorship are not relaxed and in fact still have harsher censorship laws than most countries. For example, in most countries when viewing pornographic material you can see everything without any censhorship bars or blurred areas and they can be carrying out any number of activities without any problem.

In the case of Japan's censorship laws in regards to pornography, it is the total opposite. You can still find the common censorship bars and blurred areas even in situations deemed not to be pornographic like nude scenes in movies.
