Why is the Swedish Vallhund so rare?

Swedish Vallhund, also well-known as Wolf-Corgis, happens to be one of the rarest breeds in the world. The national dog breed of Sweden is theorized to have been brought to England and is considered the ancestor of Pembroke Welsh Corgis. Vallhunds are good dogs all around and are similar tofloofers(but with smaller feet). They love cows and are an excellent herding dog.

The breed is rare because it nearly went extinct in the country during the 1940’s due to neglect and no recognition, but were saved by two breeders with four puppies left. The breed was recognized by Swedish authorities in 1943 and given this name. The Swedish Vallhund’s fortunes became better in the modern times and are now becoming more and more common in households and herding farms. Although they are found everywhere in Sweden, importing this dog in other countries is difficult due to long waiting lists.
