One theory suggests that the area was part of the Hudson River and the route belonged to cargo ships that must have wrecked and was buried in its depth. Over years, the river disappeared and the trade Centre was built. After the September 11 attacks on the world trade Centre, the ship was dug up from the rubble.
The wrecked ship that was found beneath the world trade center was about 22 feet beneath the street level. The tree rings on this wooden ship was analyzed by a team of scientists and researchers who concluded that the wood came from cuts in Philadelphia and belonged to the year 1773.
This dates back to the colonial period. Tentatively, it has been recognize as Hudson river sloop which was used to transport cargo and people over rocky water. This point, was its final resting place and was uncovered after the September 11 2001 terrorist attacks on the world trade center.
