Scientists have identified a mysterious quantity they have called “Dark Energy”. Although they don’t really know exactly what it is or how it operates they do believe it comprises about 65 percent of the universe. The rest of the universe is made up of about 27 percent dark matter and the remaining 5 percent is normal matter. Normal matter are things like stars, planets, and galaxies.

The leading theory is that dark energy is a force that works opposite gravity and physicists believe it is stretching making the universe continually expand. Scientists know more about what dark energy isn’t than what it is. Dark energy doesn’t emit any light, it is not clouds of normal matter, it is not antimatter, and it is not a black hole.
