Call and response is a term used often in songs or music to note that there are two parts to it. The first part is called the call where it is one part of the song and then a response is sung. It could be a verse and the chorus response.
This element in music can be found in different types of music including African, African American music, Cuban music like salsa, folk music, classical music and popular music. Sometimes, a soloist or leader will sing or play a part of the musical instrument and then the chorus will answer. They could be repeating the same part that was first said by the leader or it could be a different line.
