Cuneiform
The bone in direct contact with the first metatarsal is the cuneiform bone. The first metatarsal is the bone behind the big toe of the foot. Of all the metatarsal bones, the first metatarsal bone is the shortest, thickest and strongest.
The first metatarsal is divided into head, body and base.

It forms a joint with the medial cuneiform and to a small extent the intermediate cuneiform bone. The sesamoid bones glide through the two grooved facets on the plantar surface of the head of the first metatarsals.
Hope this helps.
