Secreting inhibin, forming a blood-testis barrier, providing nutrients for developing sperm, and secreting fluid into the lumen of seminiferous tubules to support sperm development and transport are all functions of Sertoli cells.
These cells are a kind of sustentacular or "nurse" cell and are the somatic cells in the testis that help in the process of spermatogenesis, the production of sperm. Sertoli cells are very important for testis formation and spermatogenesis, as they control the environment milieu inside the seminiferous tubules of the male reproductive system.
