In the 17th century, the Catholic Church had begun to over abuse their power, and individuals such as Martin Luther noticed it. The Catholic Church started taking indulgences from commoners whenever someone sins. Martin Luther realized that there needed to be a change in the Catholic Church, thus he wrote his ninety-five theses. Luther felt that many were not educated enough to understand the teachings of the bible and other holy scriptures, and the Church was taking advantage of that. To change this Luther decided to translate the bible, which was previously written in Latin, to German. Once translated, this new translation of the bible was spread rapidly due to the invention of the printing press, and the Catholic Church lost it's power.
