Although Otis Redding first wrote and released Respect in 1965, Aretha Franklin re-recorded it in 1967 with a few music and lyric changes. Likely most famous for the line spelling out R-E-S-P-E-C-T, the song was her second single from the album I Never Loved a Man the Way I Love You; the first was I Never Loved a Man the Way I Love You and the third was Baby I Love You.
The song was rated number five on Rolling Stone magazine's list of The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time, and was added to the National Recording Registry by the Library of Congress in 2002.
