Control was released on February 4, 1986 by A&M Records, and was the third studio album from singer and performer Janet Jackson. She collaborated with songwriters and record producers Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis to create a new sound.
It was also known as a unique album as she stopped working with her father Joseph Jackson and the rest of her family, received an annulment of her marriage to James DeBarge, and underwent other major life changes. Five of the album's singles (What Have You Done for Me Lately, Nasty, Control, When I Think of You, and Let's Wait Awhile" reached the top five on the US Billboard Hot 100 singles chart.
