The practice of judging another culture by the standards of one’s own culture.

Ethnocentrism refers to the tendency to look at the world or other people’s culture primarily from the perspective of one’s own traditional, deferred, or adoptive ethnic culture.

A common example is an Asian person who eats with chopsticks, and when they see another individual eating with cutlery, the Asian may see this act as unnecessary or irrelevant.

When ethnocentrism is present, it is possible for an individual to believe that their own culture and traditions are superior to those of other individuals. This has caused a lot of societal issues such as slavery and wars.

The practice of judging another culture by the standards of one’s own culture.

Ethnocentrism is a social science that involves one individual thinking or believing they are better than other people based on their religion, race, culture, practices, language, customs, and behavior. It is sometimes related to racism, discrimination, stereotyping, and xenophobia.

People that discriminate against other people’s cultures, races, or beliefs are considered ignorant of the person’s culture. The word Ethnocentrism was first introduced by an American sociologist William G. Summer.

The opposite of the word ethnocentrism is Xenocentrism. This is a belief that someone’s culture is greater than their own. An example is a British lady insisting the American culture is better than the British way of life.

The correct answer to this quesion is A, The practice of judging another culture by the standards of ones own culture. There are many things ethnocentrism looks at like religion, custom, behavior, and language. Their judgement is based on the practicies of their own culture and they regard their culture as superior to others.

For example, a Christian may judge how a Muslim doesn't eat pork. A Muslim may judge how preachers preach and teach the word of God. Another example is how those that speak English may judge the dialect of a person who speaks Spanish. This term came from William G Sumner, who was a sociologist.
