The term multiple languages in my opinion means that it is three or more languages. I have met people who can speak multiple languages fluently, but I have not talked to them or heard them speak in multiple languages. Usually, if I speak to someone who can speak multiple languages, they usually speak in the language that I communicate in. I do know a lot of people who speak two languages.
Sometimes, I will ask them to say something in the other language that I do not know. So I do learn some new words from a language that I do not communicate in. I believe it is more common today, for people to learn a second language and sometimes a third language.
