Israel started its blockade of the Gaza strip in September 2007 claiming Article 51 of the United Nations Charter entitled them to do so. However, many international law experts believe Israel’s reliance on this article was, and still is, unlawful under international law. The reasons why are extremely complex.
There are other international law experts who seem to agree the only set of laws that now govern the situation are the international laws outlined in the Geneva Convention. Still others mention other unwritten customary international human rights laws. But back to the original question is it a crime? It’s a very complicated issue and I honestly don’t know the answer. Even the experts can’t seem to agree.
