I do believe just about all natural resources can be extracted but at a terrible cost and damage to our environment, sometimes for years. The Earth’s lithosphere, is made up of solid soils, sediments, and rocks of the Earth’s crust and upper mantle. It provides life’s necessary resources such as nutrients and minerals and important construction materials (rock, minerals, and metals), as well as sources of energy (fossil fuels and uranium).

Mining is the primary method used to extract resources from the lithosphere. There are five types of mining: surface mining, mountain top removal, placer mining, open-pit mining and subsurface mining. Each method has consequences for terrestrial and surrounding ecosystems, land formations, the quality of nearby water sources and human health.
