Henry VIII married six times for various reasons, including love, the desire to have a male heir and politics. He divorced his first wife, Katherine of Aragon, because he was obsessed with and in love with Anne Boleyn. He then had Anne beheaded claiming she had been involved in adultery. To this day that is not known for sure. After Anne’s death he married Jane Seymour who did give Henry a male heir but Jane died soon after their son’s birth.
Henry’s fourth wife was Anne of Cleves, a German princess, for political reasons but divorced her within the same year. His fifth wife was Catherine Howard, a cousin to Anne Boleyn. Henry also had Catherine beheaded because of adultery. His sixth and final wife was Katherine Parr. Henry VIII died before he could divorce or behead her.
