Within Muslims, there are various schools of thought. The muslim terrorist such as those belonging to the ISIS happen to be the wahabi salafi. This sect of Islam tends to follow extreme interpretations of the holy text and often has a very rigid yet extreme viewpoint about the life and the hereafter. This ideology is the prime reason why terrorists are born out of Islam.
In comparison, the Sufis tend to be quite tolerant of all religions and all races. In the end, it all comes down to how one interprets the holy verses and hence choose to act on it. Hence, all muslims are not terrorist but a wide majority of terrorist do recognize themselves as muslims.
