Eminem is a rapper who has been on the scene for at least twenty years and probably more. He came from Detroit, Michigan and entered an industry of music that usually does not have white rappers. However, it was even more unusual back in the 1980s and 1990s when he started to rise to power. Yet, he was not the only white rapper at the time.
There were some others who became famous too and there were probably a lot that never got famous that we don’t know about. I believe that Eminem’s popularity came from his anger and the scandals involved with him. His music seems to reflect that. Most likely, his popularity came from his personal life and the events from that life that can be heard in his music.
Some people may think that Eminem is only popular because he is a white rapper. Most popular rappers are African American, so just by being white, it makes him unique in the genre. Also, for people who hold racist tendencies want to like rap music but are resistant to black culture, they may be willing to listen to rap music coming from a white rapper.
If Eminem was a black rapper, I do not think he would be as popular or infamous.
