It will cause global panic. The biggest problem with us humans is that we are weak at accepting new things that are out of the norm. Although thereis proofof existing alien life spoken in hush-hush surroundings, the day the presence of alien life is publicly announced (or if we're unexpectedlyvisited by one that is noticed globally)will cause worldwide mayhem. The first thing that will come to the fore is "how did they come here", "where are they from" and "how do they survive". Warcould also arise between certain nations over the possession of the alien for research and if its ship hasn't landed already, it will be shot down.
TheU.S. will undoubtedlytake control of the surviving and the dead aliens by force. The U.S. is like a schoolroom bully to the world sometimes. They will probably attempt to find a way to "weaponize" the alien's biology. The technology the alien used to get to this world will also be taken by the U.S. and parts of it will be given to Japan who'd do a better job at understanding the technology anyway.
If anyone conducts "research", then they will most likelyannihilate the alien lifeform. Half the world will deny the alien's existence and the religious organizations will call it a hoax. There will be protests by religious groups calling it a social experiment or "be playing with our beliefs" and some people will be questioning whether the alien deserves to be treated with "human rights". By the timethe dust settles, the alien lifeform would be dead and buried in a freezer somewhere. The real problem will begin when it's origin species sends an entire fleet of their spaceships.
