The book that has had the greatest influence on my life is The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver. This was one of my favorite books, but also influenced my love and interest in the African continent. The book tells the tale of a family in Africa with a missionary father. I was struck by the different experiences had by a missionary family compared to the experiences of the local families.
The characters and storylines are as complex and diverse as the continent itself. Barbara Kingsolver captured my interest and made me want to learn more about Africa. This is one of the reasons I joined the Peace Corps.
