It seems that North Korea is still testing some of the missiles that they have created, but as of 2017, they were confident that the missiles that they made would be able to reach the United States if they wanted to. Some say that Kim Jong Un just wants to say this to threaten the United States or to taunt them, but with the different weapons that North Korea has claimed to have made so far, no one can really tell if this is very likely. If the missile were launched from North Korea, it would take about 40 minutes before it would reach New York City. This will not give enough time for people to evacuate if ever this occurs.
If you believe the North Korean reports from their Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) is capable of hitting the United States mainland by using an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM). The KCNA reported in late November, 2017, that the DPRK had successfully test-launched its most powerful missile yet.
The missile, called the Hwasong-15, flew more than 10 times higher than the altitude of the International Space Station and was in the air almost 54 minutes, long enough to reach anywhere in the United States. Also notable is that the test-launch included the use of a solid-fuel engine and mobile launcher.
