The relations between China and North Korea are somewhat friendly. This is definitely different from the relations between North Korea and Japan. China and North Korea have provided aid to the people of Pyongyang several times. For example, there was a time when there was a really bad food shortage in North Korea for about two years. It was Beijing that sent food to North Koreans so that they could eat and continue living.
They are mostly in good terms, which is why there are a lot of tourists who go to North Korea from China as compared to other nationalities from various parts of the world. It also helps that these two countries are located quite close together with only the Amarok River separating them.
China has dealt with North Korea but some people believe China should be doing more, and I agree. Here are just several examples of what China has done so far. China has voted in favor of United Nations (UN) Security Council resolutions to impose economic sanctions on North Korea. However, they did not want to be prevented from selling oil to China.
China has also ordered its state run banks to prevent North Korean businesses and people from opening new bank accounts, which makes it difficult for North Koreans to pay their bills. China also temporarily suspended coal, iron ore, iron, and lead imports from North Korea and fuel sales to North Korea.
