We still need feminism because women are still not treated equally. Despite being slightly more than half of the US population, women hold less than 20 percent of the seats in Congress. Although a lot of progress had been made to narrow the pay gap between women and men, women still experience about a 20% pay gap. Sadly, women are not expected to reach pay equality with men for another hundred years, or until 2119. We still need feminism because outside the US women are still horribly oppressed.
Female genital mutilation is still being practiced in almost 30 countries. In more than 120 countries, no laws exist to prevent marital rape and young girls, some as young as 6 years old, can be forced to become child brides. Women in Afghanistan can be disfigured for going to college. The world will continue to need feminism until every woman in the world feels equal to men.
