The crucible is a 1953 play written by Arthur Miller. The play is a partially dramatized story of the Salem Witch trials that took place in the Massachusetts Bay colony around 1692. In the play the protagonist is named John Proctor He is a married farmer. Mary Warren is the house servant to John and his wife.
Abigail Williams is the main antagonist of the play. She served as a maid to Elizabeth, John’s wife, and John had an affair with her. Later he regrets this decision and says that he would rather cut off his hands then touch her again.
