In our digital era, cyberbullying has become a never-ending societal issue, and the most popular social media platforms such as, Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, are the core grounds of online bullying. Hence, the creators of these platforms should use some preventive methods within their social empire to ensure teenagers' safety from being cyberbullied.
However, the victims can use some of the features provided by these social media platforms to protect themselves from being bullied online. For instance, the individual can use the "Block" or "Report" option against the specific user. They can also flag posts that are aggressive or abusive to them. Although, it seems these sites are not doing enough to protect bullying victims.
Here, I have enlisted some of the measures that social media could do to stop cyberbullying:
-
They should include easy-to-use safety features so that net users could easily remove their personal content that might damage their reputation.
-
Facebook should introduce some noticeable buttons to seek online professional assistance whenever the users face any kind of abuse.
-
These platforms should invest some time to provide personal monitoring from afar.
-
Offering online social media ethics classes can also be beneficial.
It's really high-time for social networking sites to take some responsibility to stop cyberbullying on their networks. And I hope they'll move in the right direction.
