According to Drake, he grew up poor. He was born and raised in Canada in the mid-1980s. His father was a musician and during that time musicians have a hard time of finding consistent work that pays well. Anyone who is a musician will tell you that there are times when they struggled trying to find work. Plus, his mother was a teacher and everyone knows that teachers make very little money. In Toronto, the cost of living was probably quite high so there may have been difficulties with the finances for Drake’s family while growing up.
As a matter of fact, when Drake was appearing on the television show, Degrassi, he would send money home to the family. Also, Drake’s parents divorced when he was young so he did not live in a 2-income household.
