Congress is part of the legislative branch of the American government. There are three branches of the government including the executive branch, legislative branch and the judicial branch. The executive branch include the President and the millions of workers who work for the President. The legislative branch includes the Senate and House of Representatives. It makes the laws.
The final branch is the judicial branch which includes the Supreme Court and all the courts under it. The judicial branch enforces the laws. The role of Congress is simply to make the laws and rules that govern the citizens. Congress is made up of representatives who represent the other people in their jurisdiction. Then they listen to their constituents to represent their ideas and views.
