Can a surface to air missile (SAM) take down a stealth plane like F-22?

This highly sensitive area of investigation is peppered with reports that may not be credible. Several countries are involved with different agendas for putting out information to the international scene. The F22 is considered the ultimate in stealth planes. It combines extreme stealth with sustained supersonic speed.

To take this craft down requires not only a similar or better level of stealth but an equally sophisticated capability of detecting the F22. The Russians claim that their S-300V4 can detect stealth planes, and could intercept them over Syria, and one photograph of an F-22 in flight purportedly from a Russian pilot has been publicised.

However, the Americans state that their F-22 is more than capable of countering any Russian SAM attempts.
