On October 7th, the United States government accused Russia of hacking the DNC's computer networks to interfere with the 2016 election. Russia didn't have the election per se. However, it targeted the voters responsible for its outcome. It released classified material, which helped weaken the competition, which indirectly damaged the results.
Some say that outside influences would have to have infringed when it comes to electing a man like Trump. According to the CIA, Russia meddled in the election between Trump and Clinton to undermine confidence in the electoral process. There is exactly zero substantiation of collusion between the Russians and Donald Trump, and the evidence is all speculative.
For many months, there has been an investigation into whether Russia interfered with the American presidential election. Robert Mueller was appointed as the special counsel to determine whether Russia was interfering with the presidential election. When Donald Trump traveled with Russia with some members of his family, one of his sons met with Russian lawyers which raised eyebrows among the American citizens.
There is speculation and the gathering of facts to both support and show non-interference of Russia in our election. However, since the investigation is still ongoing, a definite answer can’t be detailed in the Russian interference. Russia has denied interference in the presidential election, but some people believe that they were and others believe that they were not.
