They work directly with people who have variety of ailments. A community health nurse focuses not only on helping individuals but also on increasing positive outcome for the community. The nurse has to conduct community diagnosis to determine nursing needs and problems.

They also educate the people about ways to reduce the likelihood of spreading and contracting certain diseases like the flu, measles, HIV/AIDS, sexually transmitted diseases and the likes.

CHN stands for community health nursing. These community health nurses are also sometimes called public health nurses and are registered nurses who have obtained additional training in the field of public health.
