The original Woodstock Music Festival happened once. It began on August 15, 1969 to August 17 1969 and ran over to August 18. The festival was held in a 600 acre Dairy farm Bethel, White Lake New York, United States with about half a million people in attendance. The event was billed as “An Aquarian Exposition: 3 Days of Peace & Music”.
Over the rainy weekend, 32 acts performed outdoors. The event was later captured in the Academy Award winning documentary movie “Woodstock”. The event was initiated through the efforts of Micheal Lang, Artie Kornfeld, Joel Rosenman and John P. Roberts.
Name sake events were held in 1979, 1989, 1994, 1999 and 2009.
