AnIonic compound in chemistry refers to a chemical compound consisting of ions held together by electrostatic force. This usually consists of a metal and a non-metal element. An example is NaCl and KOH.

It consists of positively charged cations and negatively charged anions. An ionic compound has a high melting point and boiling point.
A crystal is a solid whose atoms or ions that compose it are arranged in a regular way.

Covalent bond occurs when pairs of electrons are shared by atoms. It occurs between non-metallic atoms. Theexample is Hydrochloric acid (HCl).
